I have nothing to report, I cook for my parents, I help my mother, I work out, I go to work.

I leave for Chicago in 6 days. Can't wait.

today was stupid. screw you, today.

After becoming frustrated with the increasing occurrence of mouse shit in the cutlery drawer, and the ensuing daily washing of everything therein, Dad set a no kill trap in the drawer. Shooting fish in a barrel springs to mind. we've caught 4 so far. Setting them loose outside in the cold may seem mean, but it's still nicer than Dad's suggestion, which was to shut them in the loo with the cats and let nature take its course.

Week from tomorrow I head to Chicago.

Watching House on USA, torn between which I would like to do more: snog Hugh Laurie, or punch Cameron in the face, it's really a tough call.

I got my hair dyed professionally today for the first time ever, the colour is darker than I expected but I like it and the hilights in the sun are awesome, we'll see how it holds up.

Wondering if short men at the gym are labouring under the misconception that they can compensate for a lack of height with width Are there actually women out there who like short men built like a hulk action figure?

I nag my mother all the time to eat more, take her pills, do her exercises...I then feel guilty for nagging, even though these are ALL things she needs to do.

I am currently making a bread pudding. I make a lot of them. My parents both like them, as do I, although lately I'm trying desperately to cut back on carbs...not always successfully.

More snow tomorrow. Every year I hate winter more, I never thought I'd want to live in a warm climate ever again, but maybe I do....maybe I just don't want to live here..

House over, now watchng Toddlers & Tiaras on TLC and all I can say is WHAT.THE. FUCK.

Found this page open in a tab when I got up this morning, so you know I *meant* to write...

Yesterday was my personal trainer consult at work. N worked my shoulders, abs, and arms, gave me stretches which should help with the hip pain and leg cramping I so often experience (the old, it creeps up quickly) Nothing he prescribed was so off-putting that I won't do it, and maybe if I stick with it, by summer I can wear a tank top without feeling like my arms look like a couple of hams strapped to my shoulders.

My camera came yesterday, pictures to follow, maybe even video....

Waiting for Dad to return from check-up and then I'm off to gym and then the hairdresser. Woo.

Wherein I am lazy....

I was tagged for a 25 things about me....meme on Facebook, since nothing worth mentioning happened today, THAT'S WHAT YOU GET AND YOU'RE GONNA LIKE IT.

1. I love coffee but when I first get up in the morning I would rather have a cup of tea, with milk and sugar.
2. Until I was 10 years old, I lived outside of the United States, in a variety of countries, including the UK, Saudi Arabia, Austria, and Africa.
3. My earliest memories are of being in Vienna when I was about 2 and a half.
4. One of those memories is of my parent’s friend’s son puking up roast chestnuts in the park.
5. Aforementioned friend’s son is one of my friends here on Facebook and may be the person I’ve known longest in my life, outside of family, we haven’t spoken in person in over 25 years.
6. As a small child, Leaving Jeddah to visit the States, the plane we were on had to turn around and make and emergency landing. I slept through the entire thing.
7. I went to London Zoo for my 10th birthday. It still ranks one of the best birthdays ever.
8. I have one tattoo, I would like a lot more
9. My dream car is an old school Mini.
10. When I was younger I really wanted to move back to the UK, when my parents are no longer with me I may still do it
11. As a small child I befriended a goat, only to later unknowingly eat it.
12. Between working at the Polo Store and the Vic theater I have met a variety of musicians and actors, I was never impressed, with the notable exceptions of Joe Jackson, and Eric Begosian.
13. I actually met both of them at book signings at Borders.
14. Steven Wright said hi to me once and I was rendered giggly like a high school girl being hit on by the captain of the football team...
15. After being the biggest Soft Cell fan the world ever knew in high school, I finally got to see Marc Almond live in 1998, he held my hand briefly while singing “Say Hello Wave Goodbye”. It was epic.
16. My one foray into vandalism was spray painting Sid Lives on the old railway trestle near my grandmother’s house when I was about 16. I know. The trestle is now gone.
17. I am a cat lady, I will always be a cat lady, but one day I’d like to have a bull terrier.
18. In 6th grade a “friend” of mine nicked one of my paintings from 5th grade and entered it in an art contest under her own name.
19. When I was in Jr High I took voice, guitar, and piano. My voice teacher had the wild idea that for the recital I should sing “I’m Poor Little Buttercup” from the Gilbert and Sullivan musical, HMS Pinafore. I didn’t sing that. I didn’t sing anything.
20. Despite being a complete failure in all of my music lessons, I would still like to learn to play bass one day.
21. I didn’t drink Bourbon until about a year and a half ago. Now I drink the hell out of it.
22. Before I left for college my father told me, “I know you’re going to drink, before you go out and drink, stay in and drink, so you know how much you can have without making an ass of yourself” I took this advice to heart and for the most part (with a few somewhat unfortunate and mortifying exceptions) have always adhered to it.
23. I wonder how old I will need to get before I stop getting crushes on rock stars
24. I am quite bendy, yet incredibly weak, rendering me crap at yoga.
25. I have had a total girl crush on Debi Mazar for years, I would totally make out with her.

Wild life

Last night the planets aligned in such a way that Marianne was able to sneak away from her brood for a few hours and we went for some drinks. Starting at the Horseshoe Pub, it was crowded and there was nowhere to sit, we were still game but after waiting 5 minutes without so much as an acknowledgement from any of the bar staff, we headed across the parking lot to Finnegans, a bit of a townie dump but a friendly barstaff, speedy service, reasonable prices and (wait for it....) KARAOKE!! No I didn't sing. Our new friend P did however, we met P having a butt outside. P has blonde hair down to her ass and a spiral perm (so apparently they DO still do perms, I had no idea) P looks to be in her mid 40's, dresses from the Jr's department, and likes to Paaaaar-TAY. I swear I was waiting for Stacey and Clinton to ambush at any second (although to be fair they could just as well be coming for me). I threw down a few Makers on the rocks, had some guy who worked at the bar present his belly to me for reasons I'm still not completely clear on, not knowing what I was supposed to do, I slapped it on either side, producing a pleasing "bowlful of jelly" effect. Soon I will have my new camera, at which time I will be able to document such exciting events. I know you can't wait.

I was already in bed last night before I remembered I hadn't written. Whoops.

Things I was thinking about last night:

Digital point and shoots. I settled on Canon Powershot A470 it should be here tuesday. I liked that it wasn't a ton of megapixels, I don't need party pictures to be massive, i also don't need my take everywhere with me camera to cost a ton of money, that way wnen I inevitably lose it or it ends up at the bottom of a beer glass, I won't be compelled to kill myself. My old digcam was a canon, and it's got a good lens, solid construction, and back when I first got it I couldn't have been more pleased with it. Was very impressed with images shot with it, both on Amazon and Flickr, and the reviews were almost entirely great.

At work when members come in to cancel, we are of course encouraged to talk them out of it, cajole them, offer a free PT session to get them going again, something like that. Manager however didn't seem to think that cocking my head to the side, and sympathetically enquiring "are we cutting into your pie eating schedule, tubby?"  Would be apropriate OR effective. Harumph.

2 weeks I go to Chicago! squee! I haven't been this geeked about a trip since I was in high school and going to London.

Ok, am off to look incredibly uncoordinated and foolish and possibly hurt myself Centergy class.

Wherein I am girly...

Have I mentioned the tall (natural) redhead who comes in at work? *meow*...

On monday I'm meeting with one of the trainers at work...I like the treadmill and I intend to continue doing it because I find it soothing to listen to loud music while closed captioning my way through an episode of Law and Order....but I may as well take advantage of what I can at this job, plus, speed walking will only do so much, it won't do anything to strengthen my upper body, help my lower back, make my upper arms less ham like...I've no aspiration to be a hardbody, I'm lazy, I love cheese, and red meat, bacon, and hard alcohol entirely too much and I'm of the firm belief that women are meant to have a certain degree of squish, *however* underneath the soft layer I need a firm core and some upper body strength, so if I need (and the possibility is so much more real than I'd care for it to be) to lift my mother off the ground one day, or catch her as she goes down, I can. Ultimately, should I one day find myself to be my mothers age, I don't want to be in her condition, I want to be like the lady her age who comes into the gym, does half an hour on the eliptical, and then takes the centergy class....and of course, in the highly unlikely event that one day I end up in a situation involving mutual nudity and adult hugging, I'd rather not feel like an explosion at the biscuit dough factory.

I need to dye my hair and get my bangs trimmed. I may actually *get* my hair dyed...since Herbal Essences started to disappear and I can't find my colour as readily (don't remember what it was called, but it had the happy redhead on the box) I haven't been happy with the other reds I've tried and so after over 20 years of DIY I will put the colour of my hair in the hands of another...am optimistic since one of the hairdressers at the place I go (I just can't call a Hair cuttery a "salon") has the colour I want and I can just point at her and say "like that".

I need to get out more. Seriously. I just can't figure out what the hell people do for fun around here. I used to go bowling in High School and I'd be totally down for that, alas the bowling alley burned down years ago.
