misc. miscellany

Here's the girlmetro print ad featuring one of my pictures, god bless Richelle she even gave me a photo credit.

I was following this story for the past week or so and when I saw this on the news over the weekend I blubbed like a big baby.

This makes me feel pretty warm and fuzzy too

V.excited to go to Baltimore, can't wait to see peeps and go rock my little fool head off at Splitsville. Currently ignoring the giant elephant in the corner holding the big sign that says "you can't afford this" because really, it's Baltimore, how much could it really cost....(ahem)

I am also completely geeked that I have the night off tonight and can see the season premiere of House...so if you call me between 8 and 9pm, don't be offended when I either don't answer, or pick up, swear profusely at you, and then hang up. Nobody comes between me and my sweet sweet baby.

misc cuddles and warm fuzzies...

Wooo! It’s a baby! It’s a baby!

Big warm hugs and well wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Kathy on the birth of their baby girl Sophia Beatrix!

Belated birthday cuddles to Miss Julie, Mr. Mike, and Mr. Bridget.

In other news,

Charm City look out, I’m coming to visit. Coming in Oct 4 and leaving Oct 8…I’m wondering if anyone might have suggestions for a nice place for me to meet up with folks, since the MRT is *so* 1994 (this is not to say I won’t be at least making an appearance in the MRT but I understand that some folks may have “grown out of it” or “moved on” or “never went there because it’s a shithole”) and Molly’s is no longer, someplace cheap some place divey…like the MRT but not…

Aside from that, happy it’s Friday, happy to have the whole weekend off.

So...

You kids have a nice weekend?

After friday, which found me in a hormonally induced snit the likes of which hasn't been seen since Lizzie Borden's mother took the wrong opportunity to criticize Lizzie's choice of hairstyle and  ended up as cubesteak. I seriously had to stop myself from violently throwing people out of my way as I walked to the train. A double whammy of girly anti-psychotics and a brisk bike ride to work seemed to take the edge off, but it was later that night at matilda after 2 rather generously poured (read: doubles plus) Makers on the rocks that really had me feeling no pain. Thanks to lovely and talented Calvin for making that all possible...Additionally, I managed to ride the bike home in one piece. Yay me.

Saturday, I went to Target, my sole purpose being to purchase a new litter pan for wee tiny princess as she has made it abundantly clear in NO uncertain terms that she is NOT pleaed with the selection I made when I bought her a new one when we moved, and if I want her to behave I'd better GET HER ANOTHER GODDAM PAN JUST LIKE THE LAST ONE OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY.

Sunday I went to water and inject with insulin Char Mar Superstar's cat Sage, who is, incidentally, one of the cutest cats EVER. On the way back from their place I came across a garage sale where I found for my living room THE ugly lamp I've been dreaming of. I need to get a new shade for it but look, isn't it lovely? I also very nearly bought another bike...I was able to restrain myself but it was hard...it was a lovely bike...black, 60's model basket on the front, made by some british manufacturer...sigh...

I went on 2 dates this weekend. One was good, one wasn't. I hate dating.

How not to answer a personals ad

“hi im dr mike a scientist/suthor and intl. v.c. banker , and im looking for someone fun and alive and sweet for good ,,,,,no...GREAT times. id like to speak with you so send me a phone and pix ...best wishes... if we meet youll be very - very happy with your choice ...im a teadybear of a man. best to you ...drmike:)”

Ignoring the flagrant disregard for spelling and grammar, let’s break this down, shall we?

“hi im dr mike a scientist/suthor and intl. v.c. banker” = I am a jobless liar

“and im looking for someone fun and alive and sweet for good ,,,,,no...GREAT times” = I am looking for someone naïve and trusting who will put up a good fight when I strap them to the table – it’s more fun for me if they’re feisty! Also, I will eat your liver...mmmm....sweeeet delicious liver.....

“like to speak with you so send me a phone and pix” = make no mistake, I will stalk the hell out of you.

“if we meet youll be very - very happy with your choice” = Mine will be the last voice you will ever hear

“im a teadybear of a man” = essentially a variant of “hey little girl want to come see the puppy in the back of my van?”

If it seems I'm being heartless and ripping on some poor guy's ham fisted attempt to make some kind of human connection, I'd also like to mention that this guy’s email moniker was “bonesaw44” If you can think of anything that says “lets go play doctor in my remote underground bunker where they will never hear your screams” more than that, I’d really like to know.

Amidst a smattering of smutty replies, indecent propositions, and fun responses like the one above, I also got a couple of responses that weren't completely horrifying, and perhaps might result in a cocktail. We shall see. I'm strangely almost slightly disappointed that nobody sent me a picture of their junk.

All these posts in one week, I may have to take a hiatus until christmas!

1. I have had entirely too much caffeine today and as a result have been teetering on the brink of a panic and /or heart attack for the past 3 hours. But I'm gonna finish that Americano yet, oh yes. Starbucks you will not beat me.

2. Upon getting off the Metra last night I was shocked and saddened to discover poor beloved Floyd had a flat, which not only lead to having to walk him home the better part of 1 mile (which isn't far but still tedious when you keep cracking your shin on a pedal)  it also resulted in my taking the el to work this morning. I have been quickly and irreparably spoiled by the speed and cleanliness of the Metra so this morning's commute was fraught with copious inner shit fits each time the train stopped and sat, which was approximately every 30 seconds...will be taking Floyd directly to the bike shop after work, and hopefully he will be back on the road by 6:30. Yes, I should learn to change a tire on my own, and I will, but for now the bike shop will do it better and faster than I am capable of.

3. My absurd hooker boots have arrived! Either I will wear them constantly this winter, or never....

was it good for you?

Had a wonderful long and productive weekend. Saturday and Sunday were taken up mostly with photo projects, punctuated with morning bike rides to exciting places like the coffee house by work and Tar-jay (and how excited was I when I realised it's less than 15 minutes  on the bike to get there?) Then there was 5 back to back episodes of House on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by cheeto's, popcorn and coke zero...Sunday night brought a yummy chicken dinner at Miss Sarah's house cooked in a nifty old school countertop rotisserie. I drank wine, ate good food, talked with great people, and became completely and utterly besotted with Miss Sarah's current houseguest, Loaf.  Monday I went and caught Superbad with Miss Jessica over at the Davis, and spent the remainder of the day lounging and doing fuck all...well not completely true, I made some chicken and ribs (and a kickass bbq sauce) I dyed my hair and I did all my dishes. The *rest* of the day was rigorously scheduled with intensive doing of fuck all.

The pictures above resulted from my trying to find a purpose for shoes I buy for no other reason than "they fit" and/or "they were on clearance". I will more than likely never wear them in public (particluarly the boots since doorway clearance very nearly becomes an issue) but my god aren't they lovely? Perhaps I can parlay them into a new career of doing cover photographs for chick lit novels about shopping and boy troubles (she says derisively, as if Bridget Jones Diary and several other books of that ilk aren't sitting guiltily on her bookshelf at home).

Hope y'all had a happy safe holiday weekend...

that's all you get for now.
