Michael Vick - get rid of him.
<soapbox>
I've been following this story for about a week now and I'm sickened by the fact that Michael Vick hasn't yet been suspended. You can give me "innocent until proven guilty" all you want, In my estimation the evidence and eyewitness testimony is pretty damning, and if his innocence is proven (bought), fine, but in the meantime, let's just suspend him, shall we? It seems to me it would serve the NFL well to at least PRETEND to care about this, above and beyond any financial gains he can bring to the NFL, rather than waffling around offering the public platitudes such as "We are disappointed that one of our players -- and therefore the Falcons -- is being presented to the public in a negative way, and we apologize to our fans and the community for that."...I know nothing about football, as I understand it, he's quite a valuable comodityin the field, what I DO know is that football is nothing but a fucking GAME, granted it's a game that fuels a billion dollar industry, but I guarantee that if the bodies of 15 cheerleaders had been found in Michael Vick's garage, they would be singing a different tune right now. Why is it somehow excusable for him to torture and eventually murder dogs? I can't help but wonder how he would feel if he were injured and they decided to drown him, or electrocute him, or shoot him or beat him to death...I bet he wouldn't think that's fair at all.
I wish I could speak more eloquently on this subject but this is one of those issues that inspires complete raging hysteria in me. I can't fathom how anyone could involve themselves in something so entirely barbaric and pointless and cruel..
If you also believe Michael Vick should be suspended, you can send an email to Commissioner Goodell demanding the immediate suspension of Michael Vick

I can understand your indignation, but the NFL is going to move carefully. This is primarily due to the new disciplinary policy that was put into place just a few months ago. This has led to a few suspensions. The most serious was the 1-year suspension meted out to Pacman Jones of the Tennessee Titans, for being arrested something like 10-15 times (though not convicted, so far).
Pacman's case is nothing compared to the allegations against Vick. The league, the Atlanta Falcons and the player's union are going to figure out what to do. The rumor floating around is that Vick will be placed on a year's paid leave, for the time being. I'm sure the Falcons would like to eliminate the 'paid' part.
I will be very surprised if Vick is wearing a uniform this season. He may be wearing another sort of uniform a couple of years from now.

Last night, the commissioner of the NFL banned Michael Vick from training camp. As for the contract - this gets into union and legal issues. Look at this way -- if you were charged with a crime and had a contract, your employer shouldn't be able to use that an excuse not to pay you.

I suppose not, but (if proven) wouldn't this blatant disregard for this supposed "code of conduct" I keep hearing about constitute some kind of breach of contract? I do see what you're saying and yes, it makes sense, but that doesn't quell my feeling that he deserves death by a herd of hungry pigs and an eternity cleaning chemical toilets in hell.
My apologies, I can be neither eloquent nor rational on this issue.
