bullets

  1. Full weekend of shows, Neko Case, 2 nights of Ray Davies (hooray!) and Beth Orton on Monday
  2. Shocking realization - I can be a real malice fuelled fucking asshole when impelled, the knowledge that I am not as perfect as I thought I was will take some getting used to.
  3. Waxon7 put on a good show last night and I also got a way cool t-shirt (thanks Abey!) pics will be up when I get to it.
  4. Yesterday there was a big spring cleaning at the Meat World Rock Haus, not done, not perfect, but at least my house no longer has that wintertime smoker funk about it.
  5. I want to crawl under the covers in bed and not come out for about 3 days...since I can't do that, there will be a goodish bit of drinking this weekend. It's not a story for this forum, lets just say it relates to bullet #2, and a big bad lesson learned.

Step back as I get all arty on your ass...

To bring y'all up to date...(this might be the most link saturated entry I have ever written)

Saturday I ventured into the gallery district and met pal John's wife Julie who was in town from Baltimore for a seminar. We went and checked out the Joseph Sterling exhibit, which did not disappoint plus I was excited to see a couple of pieces by one of my favourites, Harry Callahan. After that, we had lunch at Bar Louie, and then it was on to more galleries, including Judy Saslow Gallery, where I fell in love with this piece by Christine Sefolosha, and the glittery gaudiness of Nancy Josephson's work. Then on to Edelman Gallery, where I got to see a real live Whitkin...I would swear it was also there I saw some images from another favourite, Bruce Davidson, he doesn't appear to be noted on the website but they had this simultaneously lovely and intensely creepy image, as well as several pieces by Elizabeth Ernst, whom I had never heard of but am officially in love with, and Shelby Lee Adams....oh, and Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison, images so incredibly beautiful they make me feel funny in my pants. We also hit the Ann Nathan gallery where they featured several artists I liked, including Rick Beerhorst, and Matt Kane...

So yeah, I really got my art on. I'm so glad Julie came out here, I have the most honorable intentions of going to see art, but I never seem to do it of my own volition, so I'm extremely grateful for the kick in the pants.  If anyone is interested in doing an art safari with me some time next month, let me know.

What else, hmmm...tomorrow night I'm going to see Waxon7. Psyched for this as it's been ages since I saw one of their shows. They are playing at Double Door, if you print this flyer you get $2 off the price of admission...and if that's not enough RAWK for you, on Monday April 3, Dirtbox Racers will be doing their rock and roll thing over at El Gato Negro, Show starts at 9, $5 cover, free BBQ. Be sure to wish Chewy the dog a happy birthday. I'm hoping to maybe make that show but it's highly unlikely since I'll be stuck working the Beth Orton show....can anyone tell me about this Beth Orton person? It's uterus hugging Lillith Fair music isn't it!!??

Nothing else is really happening I suppose, the weather is slowly but surely warming, which is serving to draw me out of my winter ennui...am plottong and planning various ways to shake things up here...hmm...yes...that's all I have for you right now....

You know it's time to get the fuck out of mom's basement if...

This is on your Amazon wishlist...

I actually have all sorts of stuff to talk about  but since I'm at work and feeling faintly productive, I think I'll get some work done. Perhaps I will return to you later this afternoon....

Good things come to those who wait...

After 2 years of working there, FINALLY, a show I can get well and truly geeked about - June 15, Joe futhermucking Jackson is coming. JOE JACKSON.

wheee!

This will be my 5th Joe Jackson show, and I am STILL pants-wettingly excited.

Alas, I wouldn't hold your breath on pictures.

In the interest of at least *appearing* more cultured and shit...

Tomorrow I'm gonna go see this exhibit. Just how cultured it makes me going to see an exhibit featuring photographs of hooligan adolescents, I can't say...but at least I'm making an effort...

Just for you, Mr. Mike

More Rogers Sisters pics...

Perhaps one day when I get a beter flash, I'll get a better picture of a drummer...

Yeah I know. Like I said - banner is a work in progress.

Rog001_3

First band up was The Mess Hall, who were great, a 2 man combo consisting of a kick ass drummer and guitar player/frontman - I was in a mood, and really enjoyed their smashy smashy sound.  Next up was Celebration...I hate to speak ill of a band from Baltimore, but they really left something to be desired. Rogers Sisters came on last at 11, played a killer set with energy for days. After the show I had a beer and a catch up with Miyuki.  Although I went to the show on my own, I had a great time. Got a few decent pics. I really need to work on figuring out the right shooting mode for shows, I like a little blur, but not so much the image is indecipherable...whatever...I might go to a DBR show this weekend, and next week I'm going to Waxon7 at Double Door, so I'll get more practise...

Ready to Rawk!

Tonight I'm actually gonna go see a band that isn't playing at work, nor is it from Chicago....The Rogers Sisters are playing at Schuba's (if you look at the website, some of you may remember Miyuki from such art schools as MICA, and such bands as Funkyard)....  saw them last year at Bottom Lounge, I was really impressed. You should go too.

One tooth at a time..

Wisdom number three just came out...and it didn't come easily. I am anticipating a monumental wave of pain any second now...unless the vicodin kicks in in time...

Last night was the Steven Wright show, as an added bonus, I worked stage door, so I saw the whole thing. I've been a fan of his for years, since the first time I saw him on Carson or Letterman, way back in high school.  The man is brilliant. He was in the theater when I went down to stage door during sound check, as he walked backstage, he said hi to me. Generally I could give a rats ass about celebrity, but I was all geeked about it.

Do we hate the new banner? I'm thinking it's not permanent...or at least, it's  a work  in progress..

Pain cometh...I'm gonna go have a lie down.
