Thursday - woooo!
Since this week is all about going to/working shows for me, this weeks Thursday Three is about shows.
1. Last band you went to see?
That would be my beloved Dirt Box Racers - but you knew that...
2. Next band you're going to see? (or if you have no current plans to go to a show, next show you *would* go to, were the opportunity to present itself...)
Well, tonight I'm working the Camper Van Beethoven/Cracker show, whether I get to se the show or not remains to be seen...next band I'm actually going to see will be the Polkaholics on Saturday...what I'm really really psyched for however, is IPO in April when I get to see Splitsville - wooo! yeah! Splitsville! Only 4 guys but enough talent and cute for 10...my inner groupie is all atwitter...
(Reader: Miss Lis, you do realise you're gonna be 34 in a couple of months, yeah? Don't you think it's time you quit it with all the groupie babbling and started acting your age?
Miss Lis: Fuck off.)
3. Best show you ever saw (or if you're IN a band, the best show you ever played - which ever suits your fancy)
There have been many that were great for different reasons
Duran Duran in 1984 were great because well, it was Duran Duran and it was 1984, it was at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts, and being a 14 year old girl at the time, it was pants wettingly exciting for me. The Cult, on the Love Tour, in 1987, Boston Orpheum - just a really great show, Love remains my favourite Cult album, they played well, and the Divynals opened for them, the Ramones at Hammerjacks in Baltimore, 1992 - First of 3 times I saw the Ramones, it was the Ramones, that's all it needed to be awesome, Jonathan Richman at Max's on Broadway in Baltimore, 1992 - never again will I get to see Jonathan in such a small venue with a crowd of approximately 15.. Bim Skala Bim at the Paradise in Boston, 1995 - Great band, fun show, cousin Dan came with and got me blazingly stoned in the balcony, The Toasters and Murphys Law at Club Babyhead in Providence Rhode Island - another cousin Dan adventure, I had a really great time that night, and I also ended up spending the night in a trailer park - what's a better ending to an evening than that?? Marc Almond at Park West in 1998 - having been a Soft Cell fan of absurd proportions back in the day, it was just v. cool to see him live - this show was also cool because I went by myself but met lots of nice people, and Marc held my hand briefly as he sang an encore of Say Hello Wave Goodbye. Splitsville at Ottobar, Baltimore 2002 - great venue great band, and that show also introduced me to a couple of other favourite bands, Pulaski, and Starbelly...There are more but I'm sure this is getting tedious for all of you.
